I designed and fabricated a custom mechanical keychain, focusing on material selection, precision machining, and clean assembly. The project combined CAD modelling with hands-on manufacturing to produce a functional and well-finished final product.
The full assembly was modelled in SolidWorks, with materials selected based on strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and aesthetics. The main body was made from 2024 aluminum alloy, the key ring from AISI 316L stainless steel, the spur gear from acrylic, and the fasteners from AISI 1020 steel.
All components were machined using a lathe and a 3-axis milling machine. Internal threads were added by hand using a tap to ensure proper fit during final assembly. The completed keychain demonstrates precise tolerancing, clean machining, and careful material integration.
